Choreographic Journal

Thursday 7th January 2016

During this session, we had been set our creative task by our lecturer. Students were to compose a 2-3 minute piece using their chosen stimulus and dancers. With this in mind, I had started my research to find out what type of stimulus I would have liked to focus my piece on. During the first half of this session, my research had continued, however at this stage, I selected my music and had an idea as to what my stimulus could be based on. The piece of music I had chosen was not an instrumental but was a song written and performed by Sia, called Little Man. I had favoured this piece of music as I enjoyed the lyrics to her music  which was sung about 'Little Man.' Sia very much based the song about feeling/emotions towards 'little man,' and in contrast, how he made her feel. I kept this in mind, and had made a relation to the music and this idea.

The aim of this week was for the majority of my choreography to be taught and for the concept of my piece tio be fully understood. For the remainder of the session, I continued to teach Yulia the material, and had answered any questions outstanding.

Later in the day, outside of rehearsal time, I continued to work with Yulia, and I did feel comfortable with how much she had learnt. We now had two counts of eight to complete. I instructed her to continue to practice and rehearse, to ensure that

This session was a feedback and sharing of the work that we had been producing over the past few weeks. Lucy had recorded all performances, and had asked all students to give constructive criticism on each piece, giving some strengths and areas for improvement.
