Final Evaluation- Lovestoned

What went well?

During the rehearsal process I very much enjoyed the idea of dancing a combination of styles of dance, which were typically Street/Urban and Contemporary. I do feel that I was able to perform all of the movement to the best of my ability, whilst responding to feedback from my teacher and other class members. As well as this, I did enjoy the technical aspect of this piece, in regards to the dynamics, and the musicality. The instrumentation of the music did play a significant part to our movement and the dynamics of the piece, so I feel that I possessed the ability to use mind and movement simultaneously to perform all movement.

What were my strengths?

Some of the strengths I feel that I possessed with this piece in particular, was having a great sense of dedication, and being proactive throughout the nine weeks leading up to the show. I demonstrated a high level of professionalism and consistency to my work, and was able to adhere to tasks set quickly and efficiently.

What were my weaknesses?

Some of the weaknesses I had encountered during this process, was predominantly within the creative section of the piece. I did find it a challenge to choreograph and be unique with the movement, which did result in very confined, minimal movement. Another aspect that I did find challenging, was the positioning/placement of my body, in particular, my arms when practising/performing. This did take me a few weeks to correct and learn.

What could I could improve upon?

Some aspects that could be improved upon for next time are;

  • To be more original/creative during a creative process, by thinking deeper into the material I choose to put together, and how I can show the structure of this when performing.

  • To think about specific details in terms of my positioning of body parts and how each dance move is to look in the space.

  • To remain attentive and focused throughout rehearsals, including when I am offstage.

How did this process develop me as a performer/dancer?

As a performer/dancer, I feel that my overall ability in projection of my body, and musicality in my movement was developed significantly. I did see an improvement over the duration of the nine weeks and I was continuously pushing myself to better these skills and apply them to this piece.
